“Booty 2 The Ground” is one of the freshest Trap songs the Mad Decent crew released in late 2010. UZ and CRNKN became two of my favorite producers right after hearing this song for the first time. One of those songs you play again right after it ends and still feel the same high energy as the first time you heard it. Very excited to share their incredible VIP remix of the original because it is exactly how we pictured the VIP remix.

From the start of the track until the very last few seconds, UZ and CRNKN keep listeners on their feet with their unique production style. With sounds that make your stomach feel sick and your face look angry, “Booty 2 The Ground (VIP)” is even more hard hitting than the original. Since his fist release with Mad Decent, UZ has gone on to become a household name in Trap. He will be making his first appearance on American’s leading Trap tour: TRAPFEST in Albuquerque, NM on May, 23rd (Click Here for More Info!). Meanwhile, CRNKN is the New Hampshire bass wizard that already gave us bangers like “Signs of Life” and “Boom”. He has worked with countless artist including gLAdiator, UZ, Bro Safar. Both artist are definitely worth checking out. Enjoy!

Hustling straight to the top of the game, Trap music is the hot commodity of the EDM world. A post-dubstep sub-genre that was oddly awarded the name Trap, the thuggish transformation really plays on our gangster desires as humans to get turnt up. Trapfest is paving the way for Trap and Moombahton in the US with stacked lineups and sold out shows featuring the best and brightest in the game, including two of our top five already appearing on their US tour.

Top 5 Trap Music Producers

These are our thoughts and feelings on the current status of Trap and five producers who have shaped its growth to this peak. We understand and acknowledge the major influence that musicians such as Diplo, Baauer, and Flosstradamus had on trap’s initial surge, but we feel the real soldiers are the ones innovating with their music. Bro Safari, UFO, Mayhem & Antiserum, UZ, and Luminox all fall into this category for Moombroton’s Trap Game Top Five.

Producer : Bro Safari

Home Town : Atlanta, GA
Current Location: Austin , TX
MGMT: Circle Talent Agency

Born in Italy raised in Atlanta, Bro Safari aka Knick Weiller understands the Trap game better than any other producer we’ve been given the pleasure of experiencing. His flawless production quality and vocal manipulation make for an existential sound no matter the genre label; his time with Evol Intent resulted in countless Drum and Bass masterpieces. We talked with Bro Safari during his last visit to Colorado for Trapfest and his insight inspired our own thoughts on trap as post-dubstep instead of “Trap” the style of music many dirty south American producers have chosen. This video of Waka Flaka in the studio might help you understand the comical difference.

Initially blowing up due to his leading role in the surge of Moombahton, his original Moombahton and Moombahcore tracks can only be matched by those of Dillon Francis. Nick’s ‘Back to Skool Mix 1’ was actually what got me into Moombahton. With the release of ‘Uncrushable’ and originally featuring a Notorious BIG sample we could already see the influence of Hip-Hop on the Bro Safari sound. ‘That A$$’ is only the beginning of killer Trap tune after another. ‘The Drop’ changed the lives of ratchets everywhere and next Wednesday 5/22 Bro Safari and UFO will be releasing their full-length album “Animals” completely free! Check out the interview we did with Bro Safari last year and prepare for the release of his brand new Moombahton and Trap.

Producer : Mayhem & Antiserum

Home Town: Atlanta, GA / San Francisco, CA
Current Location: Atlanta, GA / San Francisco, CA
Label: SMOG

Most notorious for their collaboration ‘Brick Squad Anthem’ these two have been smashing it with their real trap shit; gaining support from Skrillex, Diplo, Datsik, Flux Pavilion, Dillon Francis, and many, many more. In fact, Datsik seemed to be quite inspired by their work and decided to release a 2 track EP of theirs on his Firepower Records. Bangladesh / Trippy was a massive success on Beatport and got blog support from just about everyone you could think of. Combining sounds of the west coast and Atlanta trap, Mayhem and Antiserum are quite the rowdy combination.

Their unique sound is much more trap than dubstep compared to most of the current leaders in trap, and that is why we chose them as one of our top 5. As of late, Mayhem has been spending much of his time working with SMOG Records and making new music with 12th Planet as they tour the states. Antiserum’s remix of Caspa just came out on the Dub Police label and will be making an appearance in Colorado this Saturday 5/18 with Helicopter Showdown at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom!

Producer : UFO

Home Town: San Francisco , CA
Current Location: Los Angeles , CA
MGMT: China Black

Edwin Garro (aka UFO) is one of the pioneers of drum ‘n bass and an innovative Trap producer. His first release in 1999, “Enemy Infiltration”, achieved worldwide recognition after becoming the first ever drum ‘n bass song to be a number one hit in the USA. The Moombahton world got their first glimpse of UFO with his release of “Iodine Poison”. This moombahfunk track with Atlanta friend Mayhem gave many of us a preview of UFO’s wild flavor to come. After a number of years touring and producing around the world, UFO returned to San Francisco to work with Richie Panic on Designer Drugs’ label Sex Cult in 2010.

Since then he has released bangers like “IT’S A TRAP!” and “Burn The Block”. His remix of Skrillex’s “Make It Bun Dem” with Bro Safari is a fan favorite and one of his many tracks to be supported by multiple EDM artists. It’s OG! Wednesday, may 22 will be the release of the highly anticipated album “ANIMAL” with the Trap/Moombahton legend Bro Safar. Get very excited because it’s FREE! He is presently working on Moombahton projects with Bro Safari of Evol Intent, Sluggo, Mayhem and Kuru.

Producer : UZ

Home Town: UNKNOWN
Current Location: INTERNET
Label: Mad Decent

ƱZ is the mysterious producer first to appear on Diplo’s notorious Mad Decent in 2010. Not a single outsider knows the mysterious but talented producer behind a gold mask. Diplo writes, “UZ tunes are drunken energy sub bass and cartoon horn stabs that make my stomach feel weird and my feet shuffle”. His ‘Trap Shit’ series continue to receive support from the likes of Flosstradamus, JWLS, and Baauer. Since their fist release two years ago, the ‘Trap Shit’ series continue to be listened by EDM fans and played at many festivals. ‘Trap Shit’ V6 is popular among many of the writers at moombroton. In 2012, ƱZ and CRNKN teamed up for the unbelievable Trap anthem “Booty 2 The Ground”. The song is just full of bass, energy, and gangsternness.

ƱZ most recently remixed Zeds Dead’s “Cowboy” featuring Omar Linx into a very sick Trap tune (released by Ultra Music). He is known for his unconventional performances and making the crowd do what he wants. The latest of the Trap Shit series (V12/13) packs a lot of his great production and was released on Boys Noize Records about a month ago. Go check out more of his releases on Jeffree’s (sub-label to Mad Decent), FOOL’S GOLD, and SMOG. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Producer : Luminox

Home Town: Phoenix/Chicago
Current Location: Phoenix, AZ
MGMT: EnvyUs Talent Agency

Producing Trap can be very repetitive and fruitless unless you are Luminox. As one of the youngest artist to join the freshmen class of 2012 EDM artist, Luminox has released a number of songs to prove he deserves to be where he is now. His Edit of Wiz Khalifa’s “Gang Bang” is a massive Trapstyle banger released on Play Me Records in 2012. Following this edit came fan favorites “Coffin” and “Leisure”. Both of which are very energetic and introduce us to Lumniox’s signature sound – The WildCat. It is unlike any other laser in EDM.

He is as notorious for his work in the studio as he is for his stage presence. Other Luminox releases including “I Run This” and “Hate Me” are exemplars of his excellent production and position on our list. Check out moombroton’s interview with the Trap master and find out more about The WildCat.

Summer is here; for most of us. With summer comes a whole lot of releases by artists to be played out throughout the next few months. However, there is one release that will shadow them all. It comes from one of the most talented and consistent producers in the entire EDM scene, the one and only David Heartbreak. Brooklyn born, Heartbreak always brings his A-Game, which recently got him signed to Skrillex‘s highly acclaimed OWSLA label. To kick off this epic union, Heartbreak released a seven track EP entitled ‘The Foundation’. Each track brings something different to the table, with Heartbreak breaking genre barriers and fusing old aspects and styles with a neoteric attitude. Make sure to listen and cop this EP because if you do, then there is no possible way your summer will be lacking in the musical department. Heartbreak delivers in a big way.

We were very fortunate to have had the opportunity to interview Heartbreak as well! So while you take a listen to the EP, read through this revealing interview into the life and mind of David. Keep up to date on his projects and whereabouts because David has a bright future a head of him. He can be found on Facebook, Soundcloud and Twitter, or collectively at his own Website. Now, enjoy the following segments!

David Heartbreak Interview

Moombroton: First off, how did you get into music and more specifically EDM?
Heartbreak: I got into electronic music by Daft Punk. I actually purchased ‘Revolution 909′ back in the day and thought it was instrumentals (haha). But them along with Timbaland and Bjork, that was all EDM to me, plus I grew up listening to a lot of hip hop and rock, thats where I get my aggressive side from. Honeslty, I was very closed minded, I didn’t go as far as I do now into music, only regret I have. The types of music that you listen to says a lot about your personality.

Moombroton: Who are some of your influences, back in the day and currently?
Heartbreak: The Prodigy, Timbaland, Skrillex, King Tubby, Fly Lo.. I can go on for days. I’m a fan, a lot of people front like they’re not fans but we all admire someone else’s shit.

Moombroton: Can you tell us about your upcoming EP, entitled ‘The Foundation’, and how you came to be a part of the OWSLA crew?
Heartbreak: The OWSLA situation just happened. Right tunes, right vibes, right crew.. Plain and simple.

Moombroton: ‘The Foundation’ has some great collaborators, so how did you figure out who you wanted in on the project?
Heartbreak: The collaborators on the EP were all artist that I knew and had love for. I have to like your shit to want to work with you. I’ll never collab with an artist for the wrong reason, the vibe has to be right, thats so big to me.

Moombroton: Over the years you have made music in many genres, so what are some benefits of doing so and what compelled you to create such a variety of content?
Heartbreak: I think if you listen to a lot of different genres, you eventually want to create different genres. I love music as a whole; EDM, reggae and hip hop, so it makes sense to me to fuse the genres.

Moombroton: It’s been a while since you have created moombahton, but you are considered one of the original innovators of the genre. What is your opinion on where the genre is and where it may be headed?
Heartbreak: Yeah I did a lot for moombah, but honestly I’m not sure what happened or whats happening in the genre, but thats the same with trap electro etc.. I don’t really pay attention to too many people. When I’m on my grind, I try not to focus on anything else but the task at hand. And the task was ‘The Foundation’. So I honestly haven’t looked left or right, I’ve just been looking straight ahead.

Moombroton: I recall a very old Facebook status of yours that stated something to the effect of, “Learn your music theory and then forget about it.” Care to expand on this statement?
Heartbreak: Music theory haha.. I studied it for a while, and then my music started sounding like everyone else. I was like, this isn’t me.. I was getting too melodic for my taste. Sometimes having too much book knowledge can hinder your creativity. For example, I know guys who can play the hell out of a piano, they know the hz of the keys, but can’t make a drum track… So you have to find that middle, and its hard, but once you find yourself its a wrap.

Moombroton: What DAW’s do you use/prefer? What about plug-ins?
Heartbreak: I use all the DAWs out there except Cubase. Each piece does something unique. My primary go to is reason 7 though.. That and the MPC.. Sometimes I need to get off the box and touch a piece of gear.

Moombroton: Not only have you performed in countless events and venues, but also an incredible amount of countries. So where is your favorite place to perform and what has been your most memorable performance?
Heartbreak: Yeah man I’ve played all around the world.. I think the best show I played was in Denmark at Distortion Festival, that was the first time I rocked for thousands of people.. You never forget your first festival.

Moombroton: Do you have any other musical or nonmusical projects?
Heartbreak: I just bought a set of drums.. One day I want to do some kind of live EDM set.. haven’t figured it out.. but just play some dope shit on the cans.. haha.

Moombroton: What does the rest of the year look like for Heartbreak?
Heartbreak: The rest of the year is looking good… On a production break for the whole summer.. I need to get some inspiration from touring and then I’ll start working on the next EP.

Moombroton: If you could give aspiring producers advice, what would be the top 2 or 3 things that you would have to tell them?
Heartbreak: My advice to the upcoming is stick to your guns, and make whats in your heart. Set small goals, and once achieved set bigger goals. Never stop grinding. The music business looks easier than it is, but it takes hard work and patience.
Hello Summer!! The most anticipated season for most of us is here! So is a tippy track from the Trap master Brillz. This time teaming up with the underground legend Z-Trip for a grimy trap tune. The two remix Jay-Z’s “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” into a Twonk style trap anthem that is filled with a lot of hype and bass. This collaboration was organized for the release of TRAPNATION by IMANOS & LIFE + TIMES (Click here to check out the full album).

Brillz and Z-Trip create remixes of popular/familiar loops that all of us love. Check out both of their soundcloud for more banging tracks like these. I love this remix because it has a lot of energy and makes you want to get up from your seat. Enjoy!
Everyone’s May 6th should have been full of Savant and Knife Party. Savant teamed up with Adam K and JELO for a two song EP with some dope electro house. Knife Party released ‘Haunted House’ which was full of, well, more electro house! On the KP release, I do have to say that my favorite is “Power Glove”. Which is yours!? Next, things you need to stay tuned for. Two pictures have been posted, one showing the exportation of a “Thumbs Up” remix by Kill The Noise! The second is a lovely creeper pic from none other than Sir Dillon Francis himself, over the shoulder of Diplo. It says they are collabing, so let’s hope that’s true! That would be a massive track. Aaaaand here’s a third pic of Wolfgang’s epic cat tattoo. Now digest!

Shorne: The amount of anticipation that Daft Punk has built up for their upcoming album release of ‘Random Access Memories’ is starting to get a bit ridiculous. Between their fifteen second commercial spots on Saturday Night Live, and constant release in the Collaborator Series from musicians and producers that the French duo has been blessed to work with; everyone on the internet must know of its impending May 21st release. Now we’ve got an up close and personal interview with Guy-Manuel and Thomas Bangalter as they talk with Pete Tong about what they have been up to since their last world tour! Enjoy these inspirational words.
Tyler: A surprise moombahton banger was released this week by three huge moombah figures! Major Lazer, Bro Safari and ETC! ETC! teamed up to remix “Gal a Bubble” by Konshens. This track has a tremendous bouncy feel to it and is nothing but good vibes. The sounds and percussion are incredible and that subtle piano in the beginning is amazing. After the drop you can’t help but start dancing. I like the OG moombah feel this one has, but it is revamped into something fresh and new. I would expect nothing less from these three. Oh, and did I mention it is free? Get it!

Surf: Happy Summer!! PR!NTZ‘s remix of’ “Let You Know” is a great track to start your summer with. I can’t tell you how happy this track made me feel after finishing the last project of the school year. The original by SHACKLES is great but this funky remix is fitting for a happy summer tune. This chill/glitch track is smooth and very easy to the ears. Check out more of PR!NTZ and show him some love on Facebook. Enjoy!

The bass music project entitled Destroid, which consists of Excision, Downlink and KJ Sawka have released their first album. ‘The Invasion’ has ten songs, with amazing collaborators like Bassnectar and Far Too Loud. However, the last song on the album is one that really caught my attention. Excision teamed up with Space Laces for an absolutely massive, bass heavy (of course), moombahcore track. “Funk Hole” not only brings the usual Excision bass, but brings a hardcore groovy mood that will cause anyone and everyone to start getting down. I have no doubt that I will be playing this one out for a long time. The range of genres in this release was a little surprise to me, but nonetheless, a good one. Make sure to check out the rest of the tracks and buy this album. You will not regret it!

Now let me tell you from first hand experience that this festival is definitely the top contender when it comes to EDM shows in Colorado. Obviously the beautiful venue plays a major role but the production and all around vibe calls for a one of a kind experience. Last year I had the pleasure of seeing artists such as Knife Party, Hardwell, Zeds Dead, Excision, and Dillon Francis rock the stage with seamless mixing and massive choons.

Well for the 11th year in a row Global Dance Festival is back at Red Rocks July 19th thru the 21st. They still haven’t released the full lineup yet, but who they have announced so far reassures us that the rest of the artists are gonna be some heavy hitters. July 19: Beats Antique, EOTO, Emancipator, Ott, Zoogma, Signal Path, and Sorne. July 20th: Savoy, Sander van Doorn, Arty, Emma Hewitt, Carnage, K-Theory, and Ecotek. July 21st: Mimosa, GRiZ, Gramatik, Baauer & RL Grime, Kill Paris, and Seven Lions. Can’t wait to see all of your beautiful faces there!

I’m hearing rumors that tickets are almost 75% sold out, so grab em before they’re gone right here: http://bit.ly/GDF2012Tix

When I saw that Vonzie posted a new track that was deemed “Magic Moombah Trap” I thought to myself, “Ok, let’s see what exactly that means”. After listening, I totally could not disagree even a little bit with the genre title. “Hands Up” is an absolutely incredible track that exemplifies Vonzie’s production talent. The piano breakdown in the beginning is beautiful and sounds very real, which is what you look for in production. This track is perfect for a chill atmosphere, but I can totally see this being played at any type of venue. 808, spacey and chill. What more could you ask for?

Head over to Vonzie’s Facebook and SoundCloud to give him some love and stay tuned for more originals and remixes! And if you’re ever in the NY area, check him out if he has a performance, or if you have your own venue, book him!

For many of us, it’s that time of year again, the dreaded finals weeks. To help that along we have some amazing tunes for you guys this week that are sure to motivate you. But first, some news. Dubstep OG, Benga is releasing his brand new album in two days, which coincides with the Knife Party release. That’ll be one hell of a day! For those of you who know the chip tune band ANAMANAGUCHI, they finally have another album finished, with 22 tracks, but are looking for fiscal help to take it, along with other ideas (Merchandise, Live Show stuff etc.), to the next level. If anybody is interested then head over to Kickstarter to see what their project is and what they want out of it. Lastly, to get your lolz for the weekend here are 14 pictures of Producer/Djs from back in the day! Now, on to the sonic portion of your digestion!

Shorne: Brown & Gammon‘s vintage production style is bringing us a fresh new take on dance music reminiscent of edm’s roots. “Dark Matter” is a mesmerizing original electro tune from the UK based duo and was just recently released by the renowned Circus Records. Circus continues to build upon the platform Flux Pavilion laid down as founder of the label, and have just added the filthy up and coming Mizuki to the roster. Haven’t heard much from Flux recently but word on the street has it that he is also working on a live project much like Excision‘s Destroid, which will be premiering this summer at festivals across the world!

Brown & Gammon – Dark Matter: Free Download

Roin: Okay, so this week for your digest I’m giving you a little more filth than usual. Preyfour shows us with this massive original that he deserves to be representing a heavyweight UK label such as Never Say Die or Circus Records. Unfortunately there is no DL for this track but make sure to keep a close eye on this kid because he has an EP release in the near future and I’m sure much more planned for 2013. Enjoy!

Preyfour – Killing Spree (Bump It): Sound Cloud

Tyler: This week I was lucky enough to stumble upon one of the more unique producers I have heard as of late. Enteroar brings us this beautiful banger with “Septendecim”. I think with just listening to this song, you can know exactly what genres influence this Cali producer. This track is super upbeat and will do more than just put you in a happy place. Danceable, until the surprising second drop, make sure to listen to the whole thing and grab this free one!

Surf: The Regulators are one of my favorite Chicago artist right now. I’ve been a fan since listening to their dope “Strictly 4 My Regulators” mix (Highly Recommended). This bootleg of Mr. Carmack‘s “Birth Control” they called a “Billionaire Boys Club” is very chill and easy to the ears. Nevertheless, it packs a lot of good sounds and Regulators own spice. I promise you won’t be disappointed by their SoundCloud. Enjoy!
Well Astrolis took this classic hard rock / metal anthem and gave it the perfect moombah touch with some catchy vocal chops and driving synths with a beat much easier to dance to compared to the original.
