Notixx has come a long way since he was last featured on the site with his remix of Calvertron’s ‘Buggin.’ This funky fresh glitch hop anthem ‘Inspirations’ has been given out fo’ free in light of him reaching 10,000 fans on Facebook, so I think a congratulations is in order! His music has been getting support from Caspa and the rest of the Dub Police family for awhile now; also make sure to keep an eye out for his next EP release which should be happening within the next couple months I believe. Turn it up and get the funk down!

Since the recent burst of electronic music, a number of record labels are in a race to be the best. Neverthless, only a handful are at the top and competing rigorously. Our second PDRL SMOG is among this top percentile. SMOG is an innovative and futuristic record label based out of the beautiful Los Angeles California. The history of this amazing label began in the summer of 2006 with the goals of spreading dubstep to America. What they go on to do is inspiring and respectable to any music lover. SMOG first began with an event called “an experiment in Dubstep” in Downtown LA which resulted in a tremendous success. They continued this but made it bigger each year since 2006 and went on to start an underground music revolution in North American. After this event SMOG introduced LA to dubstep and inspired a number of producers and djs to began playing/clamming the genre. SMOG began as event promoters for dubstep but after repeated success they expanded to a record label the following years.

Now they’re releasing tracks form the biggest stars like Skrillex, Doctor P, Kill the Noise, Datsik and 12th Planet. With the production of the freshest bass music they are every artist’s dream and well respected in the dubstep family. The current caliber of artist includes: 12th Planet, Flinch, Kelly Dean, Antiserum, SPL, and Noah D. They are definitely the leaders in releasing the newest and most unique dubstep/trap tracks. Most recently they were awarded the top prize during the Red Bull Culture Clash 2012 in Los Angeles. Impressive enough they continue to also promote and host the biggest Dubstep shows in North America (MORE SHOWS).

Skrillex Releases ‘Leaving’ EP: Out Now on ‘The Nest’.

The Nest Skrillex Releases Leaving EP: Out Now on The Nest.

Mega producer Skrillex released his brand new EP, ‘Leaving‘, this morning through OWSLA‘s member only service, ‘The Nest‘. Leaving displays a dramatic stylistic shift from Skrillex’s famous sound. For the most part this EP ditches brostep growls in favor of a more ambient and layered sound. The title track ‘Leaving‘ is a down tempo jungle influenced chilled out tune that completely forgoes a traditional drop. Instead airy vocals and strings play with percussion that is complex yet notably unaggressive throughout the course of the track. It’s an interesting new direction and while I cannot quite wrap my head around this sudden change, I welcome it.

My personal favorite off the EP without a doubt is the more agressive ‘The Reason‘. A more proper Skrillex style banger, ‘The Reason’ embraces trapy influences and a strangely minimal rhythmic drop. It’s catchy but it isn’t overbearing and in your face.

The final offering, ‘Scary Bolly Dub,‘ is a mashup/compilation featuring many of his most recognizable works, (yes, SMANS makes an appearance). This track will please hardcore Skrillex fans but I fail to understand why it was included on the EP.

You can preview ‘Leaving’ on Skrillex’s youtube channel.

If you have been on the dubstep grind within the last year and a half, then I’m sure you have seen the name Tigerlight being featured on some tracks. From Far Too Loud to Dodge & Fuski, this bass goddess has been collaborating with the best of the UK heavyweights. Well one of those names happened to be High Rankin, for an entire EP by the name of ‘Breaking Hearts and Minds.’

It was released back in the summer but the song ‘Day To Die’ led me to this EP just a week or two ago. Tigerlight’s angelic vocals build up the intro into a drop that will most likely give you a full-fledged eargasm; I promise this will not disappoint. Also, it will be greatly appreciated if you go give our homegirl Tigerlight some love on Soundcloud, considering she just started using it a few months ago AND she puts out only the biggest of tunes. Enjoy!!
