I’ll never forget the first time I heard this massive moombahton original “OH HAI” dropped by Zeds Dead in their mix for Rinse FM and then once again live at the Ogden Theater! I went bonkers trying to search the depths of the internet for this insane track by The Killabits. After a year long wait they’ve decided to finally release this banging track as apart of their “Oh Hai” EP! They feature some pretty sick tracks on this free EP like the hard-style beat “ERRBDY!”, which we posted up when they released the single a couple months back.

The Killabit‘s creativity shines through in OH HAI with some of the best vocal synth manipulation I’ve heard in the current edm era. Daft Punk, Koan Sound, and Skrillex hold the top of that list for me but this is a whole new concept. Combined with the driving groove of the “dem bow” beat and sitting at 110 BPM, this is a perfect Moombahton song. I wouldn’t miss out on this track!

EDM Digest: Installment 003 w/ Dirt Monkey, Psychologic, TJR & More!

Everyone knows the Grammy news, so do I really have to say that Skrillex won three of them? Besides for the Grammy wins, there is more Skrillex news, but this time A-Trak and Diplo are directly involved. These three are joining forces to form a youtube channel entitled “POTATO“. They plan on releasing mixes, having audio premieres and a plethora of other goodies for us to enjoy. On a sour note, Azelia Banks has more beef, this time with our buddy Baauer, who produced the track “Harlem Shake”, which created a viral craze. She apparently made an uncredited vocal edit that Baauer was not down for. She chose to use some choice words in replying to his level-headed claim. This is not the first time she has had this issue, having had similar beef with Munchi previously.

Now to the music. For this week’s digest we have some great tunes for you guys! Make sure to head to the artists Facebook pages and give them some love as well. Do enjoy!

Shorne: Psychologic shows off the extent of his production diversity with this brand new electro house collaboration with Droptalk titled “In To Pieces”. Unlike most 128 bpm tracks, they start off with a half time intro and epic percussion, specifically some big room jungle drums and Koan Sound like snares. Not what you would expect at all. In To Pieces features a little bit of everything you could possibly want in an electro house song!

Since the recent burst of electronic music, a number of record labels are in a race to be the best. Neverthless, only a handful are at the top and competing rigorously. Our second PDRL SMOG is among this top percentile. SMOG is an innovative and futuristic record label based out of the beautiful Los Angeles California. The history of this amazing label began in the summer of 2006 with the goals of spreading dubstep to America. What they go on to do is inspiring and respectable to any music lover. SMOG first began with an event called “an experiment in Dubstep” in Downtown LA which resulted in a tremendous success. They continued this but made it bigger each year since 2006 and went on to start an underground music revolution in North American. After this event SMOG introduced LA to dubstep and inspired a number of producers and djs to began playing/clamming the genre. SMOG began as event promoters for dubstep but after repeated success they expanded to a record label the following years.

Now they’re releasing tracks form the biggest stars like Skrillex, Doctor P, Kill the Noise, Datsik and 12th Planet. With the production of the freshest bass music they are every artist’s dream and well respected in the dubstep family. The current caliber of artist includes: 12th Planet, Flinch, Kelly Dean, Antiserum, SPL, and Noah D. They are definitely the leaders in releasing the newest and most unique dubstep/trap tracks. Most recently they were awarded the top prize during the Red Bull Culture Clash 2012 in Los Angeles. Impressive enough they continue to also promote and host the biggest Dubstep shows in North America (MORE SHOWS).

I know all of you remember Jiclo’s bangin’ ass remix of ‘Make It Bun Dem’ by Skrillex, which is one of my all time favorites. Well he is back, showing us a completely different side of his production skills, and with a fresh much more suitable name, Psychic Type. Bumping bass lines and room filling synths are still a part of the show, but now it seems as though this Canadian now runs the trap!

In this remix of Thrift Shop, Psychic Type turns the tables from the seamlessly flowing vocals of the original by adding some more 808′s, and a saxophone like sound to accompany them. We are lucky to get this one for free so make sure to hit the DL.

Next up, we have this guys take on a tune that’s being released on Feb 4th. The Code by ,W&W and Ummet Ozcan,is a massive house song that has been getting a lot of attention from some big name DJ’s, well I guess that’s because it is being released on Hardwell’s label, Revealed Recordings. Unfortunately, we no longer have the download for Psychic Type’s trap remix, but we will share the purchase/download link on our Facebook as soon as it’s available, so make sure to go give us a like real quick.

Finally, I present to you the best Pokemon theme sampling I have heard to date; trap original, Pocket Monsters. The intro will take you back to 5th grade, but don’t fret, the excessively fat bass and choppy horn will bring you back to reality. This is a must download and you’re really missing out if you don’t go give this gangster some love on Soundcloud. Enjoy!
